Day 20
Well, I'm in California! We biked an easy 28 miles to the Jedediah smith state park. It's a very beautiful area with some big trees.
Day 19
Biked to the Harris beach state park yesterday. About a 50 mile day. I'm starting to really itch for a long day and for getting to San Francisco, but the people I'm with want to do a shorter day and go to the Jedediah smith state park, which I've heard good things about so I figure I'll stay with them for now, and I can split off and make it up later if I want to.
Either way, California today!

Day 18
Pretty good day today. A nice fairly easy 40 miles. Stopped first in bandon, and got some food there. We tried to visit a cheese factory the bicycling the pacific coast book said was there, but it turns out the book was outdated and there's no cheese factory, oh well
Now I'm at humbug mountain state park, hanging out on the beach with the other bikers.

Day 17
Yesterday was nice, albeit not very exciting. It was sunny all day, I biked a nice easy 40 miles, and the hiker biker camp ended up being full of fun people to hang out with.
Day 16
Today was pretty good! It was a nice 40 mile day after the rest day. We restocked on food, I got to see some cool pitcher plants, and then we saw the Oregon dunes.
It looks like we're going to do three more 40 mile days, and then we'll be out of Oregon

Day 15
We decided to take a rest day yesterday, which was nice. Took naps and hung out on the beach, then I taught Tyler and Adam how to play Mao, and then we hung out until late with some other bikers around the fire.

Day 14
Today was a good day! We did
about 60 miles today from Lincoln city (where there happened to be a big kite festival this morning) to the carl g washburne state park.
It was supposed to be rainy today, but it actually turned out to be beautiful and sunny almost the entire day! There were some amazing views and beaches today, including the devil's punch bowl.
It looks like tomorrow we'll be taking a rest day and walking around, seeing the beach and what not. We're currently about halfway through Oregon, which is approximately halfway through the whole trip!

Day 13
Today: wet, cold, big hills.
Fortunately, now staying in a motel with Adam and Tyler for pretty cheap.
More rain tomorrow, yay!

Day 12
Today was a fun day! Nice leisurely morning waiting for Adam and Tyler to wake up. Then a nice leisurely 40 mile day with a stop for lunch at a Mexican food cart, a stop at the tillamook cheese factor to learn about and see how cheese is made and to get some ice cream, and a stop at the sporting goods store to pick some things up.
Now we're camped at the cape lookout state park. Going to watch the sunset and eat a delicious dinner soon.

Day 11
Today was good! About 40 miles of biking to the nehalem bay state park. Ate lunch by the beach. The most exciting part of today was getting a new way more comfortable seat, which was one of the better decisions I've made.

Day 10
Well.
I guess I biked 90+ miles today. A little more than I intended. Oops.
How did that happen, you may ask? People. About 30 miles into my day I ran into three other bikers who had been ahead of me but were slowed down due to bike problems and a late start. Since they were camped further down the coast they were planning to stay a little further than I was. I was already planning a longer 65 mile day, so I figured why not go with them? They're a good group. Two are headed to San Francisco, and one is headed to Portland who will be breaking off tomorrow.
The funny thing is, I feel fine. We'll see how I feel tomorrow though.
Anyways, saw some great things today. Saw the lighthouse at cape disappointment, and got to bike over the Astoria bridge. Oregon is wonderful in every way. There are bike lanes everywhere, they people are great (we had three separate people cheer for us in Astoria), and the campgrounds cost half as much as Washington and have free showers with HEATED FLOORS.
Tonight we're staying in the fort Stevens state park.

Day 9
Today was an interesting day! A recurring flat tire led me to take a bus from near lake quinault to hoquiam, where I visited a bike shop. Turned out I had a bunch of glass embedded in my tire. Oops!
So I got that fixed up and then restocked on food. I biked another 12 miles or so to where I am now, the arctic rv park. Not the most quiet or beautiful of all the places I've stayed, but they have a shower and laundry and everything for just 10 dollars!

Day 5
Today was cold and dreary. However, I'm finally headed south! I'm camping tonight in the bogachiel state park. It was about 35 miles to get here, an only took about 4 and a half hours with stops for lunch and breaks.
Tomorrow I'll head up to the hoh rain forest, which will be a short 25 mile trip. Then I'm thinking of spending an extra day there to rest, depending on how it is.

Days 6, 7, and 8
It's been an exciting past couple of days. First, I spent two days camping in the hoh rain forest, and then today I biked 60ish miles to lake quinault.
The two days in the rainforest were nice. The first day was a short 25 mile day, and then on the way in a super nice lady at a store told me about a nice free place to camp a little outside of the national state park. It was indeed beautiful, and I spent the rest of the day by the river, and I saw otters!
Then next day it started to rain (what can you expect from a rain forest?) and I was taking the day as a rest day, so I biked a few unloaded miles up to the national park visitor center, hiked a few trails, and learned a few things about the rain forest.
The rest of the day was spent in my tent trying to not be so wet.
Then today I packed up all my wet gear and biked the longest I've ever biked through rain and fog. It's not raining here though so I made a small fire and I'm trying to dry everything off.
Tomorrow I'll be staying near Aberdeen and will hopefully be having a visit to the grocery store an the bike shop!

Day 4
Sorry for the late post! There was no service at the campsite last night, so I'm updating as I get lunch from a cafe on the way today.
Yesterday was probably the toughest day I've had so far. It was the longest, about 45 miles, I had a strong headwind almost the entire time, I got a late start, and I got a flat tire in port Angeles that put me behind schedule so I didn't get into the campsite until around 7pm.
On the way though, I passed by lake crescent, which was absolutely beautiful. Some of the bluest water I've ever seen. Made the somewhat perilous road around it worth it.
And this morning I had a very adventurous chipmunk trying to get at my trail mix!

Day 3
I'm settled in to my camp site for day three after about 35-40 miles of biking today. Unfortunately, this is a county park and not a state park, so there aren't any nice hiker/biker sites, so I had to pay more than usual. At least the showers are cheaper though, and there's an outlet in the bathroom for my phone.
After dinner I'll probably go for a walk on the spit.

Day two
I've arrived at my campsite for tonight. It's a beautiful place, much more so than last night. However, last night I did have the company of two guys going northward coming from San Jose. It was nice to be able to listen to their stories and advice as they reached the end of their tour just as I was starting mine.
I chose to take a short day today, both to let myself rest a little from yesterday, and to give me time to bike into port Townsend and see the place and buy some supplies.
And now I'm downtown sitting in a crepe shop with wifi drinking hot chocolate!

Day 1
Day one is over! I'm settled into my campsite, having a snack.
I biked about 40 miles today (not sure if that includes the ferry ride or not) and it took me about 6 hours including breaks and lunch and the ferry ride. I feel fine, tired, but not exhausted. We'll see how I feel tomorrow. Given how i feel though, I don't think my goal of 50 miles in 8 hours a day will be that hard to achieve, although a lot will depend on the terrain.
Adventures ahead!

At the ferry
I made it to the Edmonds-kingston ferry before noon today, which was my goal. Gonna have a picnic and relax before taking the next ferry.

Food!
I went food shopping, and as you can see, bought a bag full of food. I have oatmeal, dried fruit, trail mix, pasta +sauce, burrito makings, bread and pb+j. I'm hoping it will feed me for about a week, but we'll see.
In Seattle
Successful train ride from Portland. Successful bike ride from train station to redmond. Currently staying with two '13ers Travis and Eric. Tomorrow I'll be hanging out with Dan and Noam and others. We might go on a hike. Looking into the first leg of the trip, and there's a pretty good campground about 40 miles away. More on that tomorrow!

Waiting
This is a blog to document and share pictures and experiences from my month long bike trip from Seattle to San Francisco. Currently I am waiting in Portland for my bicycle to arrive. Tracking says it's on a vehicle in Portland and should be delivered today.
